The City of Palm Desert is providing free sandbags to residents in preparation for potential heavy rainfall and flooding expected this week.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for parts of the region from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening. Rain and possible flooding are expected in low-lying areas.
Sandbags are now available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Development Services Lobby at City Hall. Residents are limited to 15 sandbags per household.
Sand for filling the bags is available near the baseball fields on the Civic Center campus. Signage has been posted to direct residents to the location.
Residents must bring their own shovels to fill the bags.
Beginning Tuesday night, sandbags will be staged near the sand pile for self-service access after City Hall closes.
City crews will continue to monitor conditions and respond as needed throughout the weather event.
