The city and Friends of the Desert Mountains had planned to host a community cleanup event at Homme-Adams Park Nov. 15 beginning at 8 a.m., but stormy weather caused the event to be postponed to a date that is not yet set.
When the event is rescheduled, it will start with a bench dedication ceremony honoring Buford Crites and conclude with a complimentary lunch for participants.
Volunteers will participate in cleanup activities including removing dead plants, trimming bushes and trees, hauling debris such as concrete and tiles, and performing light grading work throughout the park.
The cleanup is being held in celebration of National Public Lands Day, which recognizes the connection between communities and public spaces.
Organizers are encouraging residents to sign up for the volunteer event to help maintain the park's appearance and functionality.
In a social media post about the event, Friends of the Desert Mountains emphasized the importance of protecting desert ecosystems through responsible recreation practices. The organization recommends staying on marked trails to prevent erosion, removing all trash, and observing wildlife from a distance.
These practices align with Leave No Trace and Recreate Responsibly principles, which aim to preserve natural areas for future generations.
Registration information for the cleanup event is available here.
