A new indoor farmers market is set to open in Palm Desert this summer, giving residents on the eastern end of the Coachella Valley a climate-controlled option after several nearby markets close for the season.

The market will be held every Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon at Canyon Creek Mushroom Farm, 77917 Wildcat Drive, running from June 14 through mid-September.

Shoppers can expect fresh baked goods, flowers, artisan and handcrafted items, farm-fresh produce, specialty foods, and local favorites — all under air conditioning and misters.

Several other Coachella Valley farmers markets suspend operations during the summer months, including those in Rancho Mirage, La Quinta, and Desert Hot Springs. The Palm Springs market continues through the summer but relocates to the Palm Springs Pavilion.

Indio, the valley's easternmost major city, does not have a farmers market and relies in part on Madison St. Produce, a fresh farm stand that also closes in May.

The new Palm Desert market positions itself as a summer gathering option for communities including Palm Desert, Indio, and surrounding areas that otherwise lose access to local market shopping during the hottest months of the year.
