The Palm Desert Aquatic Center will close later this month for infrastructure improvements that city officials say are needed to maintain the facility's operations.
The closure, which starts on Nov. 17, will allow for the replacement of pumps, filters and heaters across all three pools at the center, which opened in 2011.
City officials said on Oct. 30 that the upgrades are intended to improve water quality, reduce service interruptions and increase energy efficiency at the facility.
A professional aquatics engineer designed the project, and a commercial pool contractor will handle construction work that includes removing and replacing mechanical systems and reconfiguring the pump room to accommodate new equipment.
The aquatic center is expected to remain closed through January 2026.
